Cowboy Sundae

by Annika D., Junior of Grandview, MO

Supplies:  orange pompom, tiny dowel, green felt, acrylic paint, tacky glue, flat-back pin

Directions:  Cut dowel rod in half, and paint it like a candy cane.  Cut a leaf-shape from green

felt.  Glue the dowel into the pompom, and glue on the leaf.  Glue the flat-back pin

on the back.

What is a "Cowboy Sundae," you ask?  It's an old Girl Scout tradition, that

is actually very hard to make these days.  You take an orange, and roll it around in your

hands, gently squeezing (this is to loosen up the juices).  Push a HOLLOW peppermint

stick into it, and use it like a straw to suck out the juices.  It's pretty tasty, but because

hollow peppermint sticks are extremely rare nowadays, it's hard to share that goodness

with others.  The only place I've found hollowed peppermint sticks in the last 10 years

was at Silver Dollar City (in Branson, MO), in the candy shop.
